Preventive Care

Our focus is the prevention and early detection of diseases. Since the lives of our pets are shorter, regular physical exams are more important and beneficial for detecting diseases and other health problems.

We recommend bringing your pet to the veterinarian for a complete physical examination at least once a year. During this visit, the doctor will listen to your pet’s heart and lungs, assess your vision, examine your pet’s mouth, ears, skin and hair, as well as check for signs of inflammation, pain, or unusual masses. Relevant laboratories that could help detect diseases or conditions at an early age will also be made.

Vaccines are part of your pet’s wellness plan. Many fatal pet diseases can be prevented with vaccines. Puppies and kittens begin their first vaccinations as early as 6 weeks of age, followed by a series of reinforcements. This protocol can sometimes change to fit the needs of your pet.

Diagnostics & Treatments
Laboratory

We have our own laboratory, which allows us to provide blood tests (CBC), blood chemistry, urinalysis, cytology / microscopy, fecal tests to detect intestinal parasites, heartworm testing and other tests to detect infections Of viruses and bacteria common in Puerto Rico. We also work with external pathology laboratories that offer another variety of diagnostic tests.

Digital Radiology

We take x-ray plates digitally so they can be seen immediately. If necessary, we consult a certified veterinary radiologist to assist in the diagnosis of particular diseases and disorders.

Surgery

As part of our efforts to provide you with the highest quality veterinary medicine, we are pleased to provide a wide variety of surgical procedures. In our surgery room, we focus on maintaining your pet’s safety, proper pain management and being at the forefront of the latest surgical techniques in the field of veterinary medicine. That is why before submitting a patient to surgery, you are given a pre-anesthetic panel: a blood test to ensure that your pet is in the right conditions to undergo surgery under general anesthesia. During the process, the vital signs of your pet are monitored and our staff is in charge of monitoring the complete recovery of the pet after the surgery. Do not hesitate to ask if you have any concerns about any procedure, or if you have concerns about anesthesia, pain management or about the care we give you after the operation.

Most of our surgeries are routine procedures, such as castration and sterilization, but we are also able to perform other types of more complex surgeries. If you understand that your pet needs care from a specialist, we will give you a referral.

Dental Care

Does your pet’s mouth smell bad? The bad breath of a pet is not only a nuisance, it is also a sign of illness. As time goes by, the bacteria build up in the mouth, which causes bad breath. If left unattended, bacteria continue to accumulate, forming plaque and causing inflammation in the gums. As oral health declines, other problems begin, such as excessive salivation, pain on chewing, and loss of teeth. Dental hygiene is an important part of your pet’s complete health, as dental disease can lead to kidney, liver and heart disease

Our dental services include:

  • Tooth cleaning
  • Tooth extraction
  • Dental X-rays

We want to think that your pet will live a long and healthy life, and we understand that maintaining oral hygiene is an important part of this. Call us today to discuss your pet’s oral hygiene needs and to help you.

Pain Management
Laser Therapy

Help your pet recover with laser therapy! This noninvasive therapy has been scientifically proven and successful in the treatment of post-surgery pain and many other acute and chronic conditions.

Is laser therapy something new?

The beneficial effects of laser light on tissue were first recognized forty years ago. Since then, there have been thousands of studies documenting the positive effects that laser light has on different cells, tissues, and disorders. Advances in technology and manufacturing have made this treatment modality available and affordable for medical use.

What can be treated with laser therapy?

If your pet feels pain, has inflammation, or a wound, laser therapy is a sterile, pain-free, surgery-free, and drug-free treatment. The laser is used for a variety of injuries, wounds, fractures, neurological conditions, dermatological conditions, and pain. In Manati Veterinary Clinic, therapy has been very popular for the treatment of hip dislocation and arthritis. If your pet is being rehabilitated from a recent trauma, or simply getting older, this therapy can help provide a safe and quick way.

How long does each treatment take?

Treatment protocols are unique to each pet and condition. Therefore, the treatments are variable in time and complexity. For some chronic patients, multiple joints can be treated in one session. When appropriate, laser therapy may be complementary to other treatment plans.

How does it work?

The Companion™ laser system is a Class IV high power laser. This system emits photons of light of high energy deep in the tissue without doing damage. These photons are absorbed at the cellular level by the mitochondria, inducing a chemical change called “photobiomodulation.” This instead stimulates the production of ATP, or the fuel the cell needs to repair itself and rejuvenate itself. Injured cells do not produce this fuel optimally. Increased production of ATP, and the other physiological changes that stimulate laser therapy, helps maintain healthy tissue and your pet will thank you.
